Damion Searls has translated many of Europe's great modern writers, including Proust, Rilke, Robert Walser, Ingeborg Bachmann, Thomas Bernhard, Peter Handke, Jon Fosse, Christa Wolf, and Nescio. His translation of Hans Keilson's forgotten World War Two novel Comedy in a Minor Key was a New York Times Notable Book of 2010 and a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist in Fiction. He is also the author of What We Were Doing and Where We Were Going (stories) and the editor of an abridged edition of Thoreau's The Journal: 1837-1861, and he has written for Harper's, The Believer, The Paris Review, n+1, Bookforum, and elsewhere.
